ALEXIS GOODING

Through the Sisterhood in Me, Alexis aims to uplift young women from underrepresented communities by connecting them to socio-economic resources, empowering them to seek leadership roles, and encouraging them to work cooperatively with each other. She is from Brooklyn, New York where she noticed the shortcomings of growing up in a low-income minority community. As a result, she set her sights on becoming an attorney, and a community advocate. Alexis received her B.A. in Law & Government from Florida Memorial University, and an M.A. in Social & Public Policy from SUNY Empire State College’s School of Graduate Studies. She focused her graduate research on police accountability and on child advocacy, which led her to publish her work titled: Abuse and Neglect — A Glance into New York’s Child Welfare System, in the Journal of Engaged Research. She is currently a Paralegal for a civil litigation firm in NYC, a Legal Consultant, and a J.D. candidate at Hofstra University’s School of Law. At Hofstra, she is a Child and Family Advocacy Fellow, a member of the Hofstra Trial Advocacy Association, a Student Ambassador, and a member of the Black Law Students Association. She is on-track to practice criminal defense, intellectual property, and to provide pro bono legal services for underrepresented women and children. In the interim, Alexis volunteers at local women and children’s shelters, and she mentors pre-law students through the Nassau County Bar Association. She thrives in being the woman she needed while navigating her journey, for other young girls.

TAKIRRA JACKSON

Takirra is a mental health advocate that is passionate about all things Black Women. Growing up in the impoverished community of Brownsville, Brooklyn, Takirra realized early on that her community was deprived of many resources. Witnessing homelessness, the effects of drugs and alcohol, violence, and the mass incarceration of her peers, Takirra was determined to follow a different route. Takirra enrolled in the illustrious Clark Atlanta University in Atlanta, Georgia, and earned her bachelor's Degree in Psychology. Although mental health has always been a passion of hers, it was not until she enrolled in an Independent Research course which inspired her to study the experience of Black women. During her matriculation, she conducted research that later became published work. In 2021 and 2022, Takirra became a published author, for two of her research projects: The Effects of Witnessing or Experiencing Police Brutality and The Exploration of Beauty and Body Images amongst Black Women. Throughout her career, Takirra has worked in several industries. She has gained experience working in Corrections, Politics and Government, and currently is an admin professional working at a Public Relations firm. Takirra has always dreamt of starting something of her own specifically for Black women. Her goal is to use The Sisterhood in Me, Inc. as a resource for every Black and Brown girl and offer services that were not available to her. With her passion for mental health, she wants to spread awareness of issues that are specific to Black communities and erase the stigmas related to mental health.

NYIAH MOULTRIE

Growing up in Brooklyn, New York, Nyiah always had a passion for pouring into her peers. She began her community advocacy journey as a teenager by volunteering at the local community center and organizing holiday donation events in high school. During her senior year, she started a “girls’ group” to tackle multi-cultural issues in underrepresented communities, and the group’s mission is still being carried on today. After graduating from the Borough of Manhattan Community College with an A.S. in Early Childhood Education, she began her career in the education field where she specialized in early child development, until her love for fashion led her into the corporate fashion industry. She is currently a Visual Merchandising Manager at Aldo, Inc. In addition to overseeing the visual marketing for multiple stores across NYC and managing more than 20 store associates, she leads the brands’ holiday giveaways and anti-homeless initiatives. Nyiah’s heart is invested in the Sisterhood in Me because she believes women are more powerful together.
